“This too shall pass.”

Today has been a pretty shitty day and I’m not one of these people who seem to think that everyday is the worst day of their life. When I was beginning to feel down, I remembered a quote by Abraham Lincoln. He went through what would be the darkest period in the entire US history when both sides of his own soldiers were killing each other, in tens of thousands. Every passing day, he said to himself, “This too shall pass.”

So, when I think about that, I started to feel calm down and just be patient with the situation and not going overboard. I decided to google this quote and found this good article about a key technique to stay calm, ofc, starting with the quote above.

  3. Yeah, it got better and I just gotta focus more. Thanks, Kim.

My personal statement? oh, you mean my previous blog. Maybe you’re trying too hard? Just don’t think too hard, be loose and let it flow. Your best writing will come unconsciously. Critique is for later. :-)

Hey man, I know the feeling. I hope that things have since then turned around for you. Take it easy.

“this too shall pass” originally came from Corintians 10:12, not Abraham Lincoln. It was a story about King Solomon, who talked about how his happiness never lasted and he feared his bad days would never fade.

But i love this quote and i hope your day ended up better, even though im responding 2 years later

    Hi Erin,

Ah cool, thanks for the info. :-) It’s interesting to see how a thought is started.

Yes, my day indeed has gotten better.

I hope you checked out the Bible reference, because I Corinthians 10:12 states, “Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall”, and II Corinthians 10:12 says, “Not that we venture to class or compare ourselves with some of those who commend themselves. But when they measure themselves with one another, they are without understanding.” Neither scripture says anything even close to “This too shall pass.” It is still a wise saying, and Abraham Lincoln quoted it as coming from an ancient wise man, but it isn’t in the Bible itself. I must say too, that it was my mantra while rearing six sons, especially when they were small and into everything.
